VA disability payments: When veterans will receive benefits in May 2025

Veterans receiving monthly VA disability payments can expect their May 2025 benefits to arrive on Friday, May 30.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) typically issues payments on the first business day of the month following the benefit month. When that day falls on a weekend or holiday, payments are made on the last business day of the previous month.

Since June 1, 2025, falls on a Sunday, May benefits will be paid on May 30.

Full 2025 VA payment schedule

The VA follows a consistent payment pattern:

  • January 2025 benefits: Paid January 31, 2025
  • February 2025 benefits: Paid March 1, 2025
  • March 2025 benefits: Paid April 1, 2025
  • April 2025 benefits: Paid May 1, 2025
  • May 2025 benefits: Paid May 30, 2025
  • June 2025 benefits: Paid July 1, 2025

This regular schedule helps veterans plan their finances month to month.

How much are VA disability payments in 2025?

VA disability compensation amounts vary based on disability ratings:

  • Payments start at about $165 per month for a 10% disability rating.
  • Payments can exceed $3,600 per month for veterans with a 100% disability rating.

These payments are tax-free. Veterans may also be eligible for additional VA benefits, including:

  • Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC): For surviving spouses and dependents.
  • Veterans and Survivors Pension: For low-income veterans and families.
  • Special Monthly Compensation (SMC): For veterans with severe disabilities.
  • Aid and Attendance and Housebound benefits: For veterans needing personal care support.
