South Macedon Fire aids rural Tennessee department

A friendship rooted in high school and a love for service has sparked a lifesaving partnership, according to The Wayne Times. South Macedon Fire Department voted to “adopt” the Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department in Mooresburg, Tennessee, after learning from volunteer firefighter Jon Ellsworth about the severe resource shortages faced by his rural station.

Ellsworth, a former Wayne County resident, told longtime friend and South Macedon firefighter Zack Farver that outdated equipment and limited funding plague his Tennessee department. After discussions with leadership, South Macedon committed to providing much-needed gear and support.

Ellsworth, who survived a near-fatal crash in 2021, credits service as his way of giving back. He’ll soon return for his 30th high school reunion, where he plans to personally thank the South Macedon firefighters for their generosity.
