The final round of April Social Security payments is being sent today, April 24, 2025, to millions of eligible retirees across the U.S. These checks, worth up to $1,720, apply to a specific group of beneficiaries under the Social Security Administration’s monthly distribution schedule.
If your birthday falls late in the month, today’s payment may be for you.
Who receives the April 24 Social Security payment?

The SSA issues retirement benefits on a staggered schedule based on your birth date. Today’s payment goes to those in Group 4, which includes:
- People who began receiving benefits after May 1997, and
- People whose birthday falls between the 21st and 31st of any month
If you meet both conditions, your April 2025 payment should already be deposited—or will arrive later today, depending on your bank or delivery method.
How much will beneficiaries receive?
The average Social Security retirement check in 2025 is about $1,720, according to SSA data. Some retirees who delayed claiming benefits or earned at the maximum threshold could receive up to $5,180, the current monthly cap.
Your benefit amount depends on your lifetime earnings, age at retirement, and claim history.
When should you expect your deposit?
Most direct deposits land early in the morning on payment day, though timing may vary by bank. If you’re enrolled in direct deposit, check your account by 9 a.m. local time. Those using the Direct Express® debit card should also see funds today.
If you receive a paper check, allow up to three additional business days for delivery.
What if your check didn’t arrive?
If your payment hasn’t shown up by Monday, April 28, the SSA recommends taking action:
- Log into your mySocialSecurity account at ssa.gov/myaccount
- Confirm your scheduled payment date and bank info
- Call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Visit your local Social Security office if your address or account recently changed
You must wait three business days after your scheduled date before reporting a missing payment.
