A Lyons man is facing multiple felony charges following a welfare fraud investigation led by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Department of Social Services.

Deputies arrested 54-year-old Jose L. Rodriguez of Lawrence Street in the Town of Lyons on April 21. Rodriguez was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, welfare fraud in the third degree, and offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree.

Investigators allege Rodriguez failed to report income from his employer while receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. As a result, he is accused of fraudulently obtaining $4,289 in benefits.

Rodriguez was transported to the Wayne County Jail and held for CAP arraignment later that evening.

The case was investigated by Deputies Radka, Klinkman, and Guerin.
