A state-of-the-art commercial kitchen in Ithaca is giving local food entrepreneurs a powerful new tool to grow their businesses, according to Shared Kitchen Ithaca. The nonprofit has opened nearly 4,000 square feet of certified kitchen space on West Buffalo Street, outfitted with professional-grade equipment and business support services.
Dubbed a solution to the region’s “stainless steel ceiling,” the kitchen is designed to help overcome the lack of accessible, high-quality culinary facilities in Tompkins County. Early members say the space drastically increases production capacity and scalability, making growth finally achievable.
Membership ranges from $60 to $1,800 monthly, with subsidies available for low-income users. Backed by local and federal funding, the facility also supports job creation and food access initiatives while seeking new board members to shape its future.
