Senator Chuck Schumer warned that President Trump’s tariffs are squeezing small businesses in Central New York, during a visit to Syracuse, according to reporting by WSYR-TV. He said local restaurants and breweries are already feeling the financial strain.
Business owners like Michele Roesch of Emerald Cocktail Kitchen described the impact as pandemic-level stress, citing reduced orders and customer spending. Tom Scozzafava of 1812 Brewing Company added that the tariffs have driven up costs and forced Canadian retailers to drop his products.
Schumer outlined bipartisan efforts in Congress to repeal the tariffs, including a bill requiring all future tariffs to gain congressional approval. The Senate has also passed legislation to end Canadian tariffs.
