REPORT: Auburn Museum Loses Federal Grant After Trump Cuts

The Cayuga Museum of History and Art in Auburn will no longer receive a $50,000 federal grant, according to The Citizen, after President Trump’s executive order targeted the agency that issued it.

The funding, awarded in 2023 by the Institute for Museum and Library Services, had helped support a curator role focused on local history exhibits.

The museum told The Citizen the agency informed said the grant no longer aligned with federal priorities.

The IMLS, facing potential elimination, placed staff on leave following the March order, which called for deep cuts across several federal entities.

Despite the loss, the Cayuga Museum said it remains committed to inclusive storytelling and continuing its educational mission.
