Seneca County Jail Sweep Finds No Drugs or Weapons After Surprise Search

Authorities conducted a surprise search at the Seneca County Correctional Facility this week, turning up no illegal drugs or weapons.

On April 16, members of the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office carried out a full sweep of the male housing unit at the facility. The operation included Correction Officers, Deputy Sheriffs, and Investigators, along with K-9 units from both the Seneca County and Yates County Sheriff’s Offices.

Sheriff Thompson praised the effort, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a secure environment for both staff and inmates. “It is imperative that we keep the Seneca County Correctional Facility free of contraband for the safety of our members and incarcerated individuals,” he said. “Our Correction Officers do a great job each and every day to accomplish this mission. Today’s operation was a testament to their dedicated work.”

The search did not uncover any drugs or weapons, and officials said the effort was part of ongoing steps to uphold safety and security within the jail. Sheriff Thompson added that these types of operations will continue to take place “regularly and at random.”
