A beloved piece of local history is getting a new lease on life, and the community is invited to help.
The Friends of Weston Schoolhouse announced a four-day Antique and Vintage Yard Sale fundraiser this August, to be held on the grounds of the historic one-room schoolhouse along County Road 23. The sale will run from Thursday, August 14 through Sunday, August 17, in conjunction with the Waneta Lake Community Yard Sales.
Organizers are seeking donations of clean, unbroken items such as jewelry, furniture, pottery, dishes, decor, hunting and fishing gear, art, lighting, outdoor and recreational equipment, boats, books, and vintage clothing. Donations will be accepted starting May 1. Those interested in contributing can contact Beth Rasmussen at (585) 506-6318.
The Weston Schoolhouse, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is currently being donated to the nonprofit group by the Town of Tyrone. The Friends of Weston Schoolhouse are working to restore the building through community donations of funds, labor, and materials. Recent contributions include a fully donated roof by Finger Lakes Metal, lumber from Knapp & Schlappi, and half the labor costs covered by Bruder Brothers Construction.
Despite early progress, work remains—particularly on the foundation and the north wall of the structure.
The group envisions the restored schoolhouse as both a historical exhibit and a hub for local gatherings. Plans include hosting book clubs, birdwatching groups, scout meetings, and other community activities.
