A three-car crash during the Tuesday morning commute sent two people to the hospital and closed a stretch of State Route 21 for more than an hour, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
The collision occurred around 8 a.m. near the intersection of State Route 21 and Latting Road. Emergency crews from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Manchester and Shortsville fire departments, and Finger Lakes Ambulance responded to the scene.
Investigators said Ashley Bardun, 44, of Shortsville, was driving a black 2012 Volkswagen Jetta southbound on Route 21 and came to a stop in the roadway to make a left turn onto Standpipe Road. Behind her, Garrett Delgatto, 37, of Manchester, was operating a white 2021 Ford F-350 towing a trailer in the same direction. Delgatto attempted to avoid Bardun’s stopped vehicle by braking and moving onto the shoulder, but was unable to avoid a collision and struck the rear of Bardun’s car.
The impact pushed Bardun’s vehicle into the northbound lane, where it was hit a second time by a gray 2009 Honda Civic driven by James Crossno, 35, of Oaks Corners.
Both Bardun and Crossno were transported by ambulance to Thompson Hospital for evaluation of injuries sustained in the crash. Delgatto was not reported injured.
JC Auto removed the Volkswagen from the scene, while Ricci’s Towing removed the other two vehicles. Delgatto’s trailer was not damaged and was removed by its owner.
As a result of the crash, State Route 21 was closed between County Road 19 and Shortsville Road from approximately 8 to 9:30 a.m.
Deputies issued Bardun citations for stopping in the roadway and failing to signal.
The crash remains under investigation by Deputy Sweet, with assistance from Sergeant Griffin, Investigator A. Colburn, Deputy Kolb, and New York State Trooper Kelledy.
