A reported theft at a Dick’s Sporting Goods in Cayuga County led to the arrest of three men last week, after deputies coordinated a swift search and traffic stop involving multiple agencies.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office responded to the store in the Town of Aurelius on April 9 around 6:45 p.m. after receiving a report of larceny in progress. Witnesses said the suspects fled in a vehicle. A countywide alert was issued, and the vehicle was quickly located and stopped in the City of Auburn with two occupants inside.
Investigators determined that Allan M. Laury, 31, had stolen merchandise from the store before being picked up by Robert M. Doyle III, 41, and Matthew R. McKay, 42. Laury was no longer in the vehicle at the time of the stop, but the stolen items were still inside with Doyle and McKay. All three men were later arrested.
Laury was charged with petit larceny and sent to Cayuga County Jail for arraignment due to multiple open cases. McKay was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and also taken to jail for arraignment. Doyle received the same charge but was released with an appearance ticket for Auburn City Court.
The Auburn Police Department assisted in the arrest. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Office or submit tips anonymously via the SaferWatch app.
