Beginning May 7, travelers must present a REAL ID, enhanced driver’s license, or passport to fly within the U.S., according to the DMV. Without one of these, domestic air travel won’t be permitted.
REAL IDs are marked with a star, while enhanced licenses display a flag and offer broader access, including land travel to Canada and Mexico. Passports remain the most versatile, covering both domestic and international travel.
Though optional, the DMV recommends upgrading. Standard licenses will still be valid for driving but won’t grant airport access after the deadline.
