Governor Kathy Hochul has ordered 13 landmarks across New York State to be illuminated in blue, white, and red tonight in memory of those killed in the Dominican Republic nightclub tragedy.
The tribute comes in the wake of a catastrophic roof collapse at Jet Set Nightclub in the Dominican Republic that claimed the lives of more than 200 people, including several with ties to New York.
“I have directed State Landmarks to be illuminated blue, white and red tonight, April 14, to honor the more than 200 individuals who lost their lives in the devastating roof collapse at Jet Set Nightclub in the Dominican Republic, including several who called New York home,” Governor Hochul said. “Our hearts are with all who are mourning this profound loss.”
The statewide display of solidarity includes major landmarks such as One World Trade Center, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, and Niagara Falls. Other illuminated sites will include the Empire State Plaza, Moynihan Train Hall, and the Alfred E. Smith State Office Building. The East End Gateway at Penn Station will light up in red.
Additional locations participating in the tribute are the Kosciuszko Bridge, Albany International Airport Gateway, State Fairgrounds Main Gate and Expo Center, Franklin D. Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge, New York State Education Building, and the Fairport Lift Bridge over the Erie Canal.
