Attorney General Opens Investigation Into Fatal Police Shooting in Saratoga County

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

The New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI) has launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of Brandon Moore, who died following a confrontation with law enforcement officers in Saratoga County.

Moore, who was 38, died on April 10 after New York State Police and Saratoga County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic dispute at an apartment complex in Malta. The incident began with a 911 call and ended in gunfire.

According to initial reports, officers encountered a bleeding woman leaving the apartment shortly after arriving on the scene. At 10:30 a.m., Moore emerged from the apartment carrying what appeared to be a handgun and allegedly pointed it at officers. Troopers and deputies discharged their weapons, striking Moore. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities later recovered a pellet gun at the scene.

Under New York Executive Law Section 70-b, OSI is mandated to investigate any incident where a police or peace officer may have caused a civilian’s death. The law applies regardless of whether the officer was on or off duty, and whether the person who died was armed, unarmed, in custody, or incarcerated.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials caution that these details are preliminary and subject to change as more facts become available.
