The New York Mets (7-3) extended their win streak to five with a 2-0 win over the Miami Marlins (5-5) in the series opener on Monday night at Citi Field.
Kodai Senga was sharp in his second straight start against Miami. After early trouble in the first inning, he escaped the jam thanks to catcher Hayden Senger’s first career caught stealing. From there, Senga settled in, scattering five hits and three walks over five scoreless innings while striking out five.
The bullpen picked up right where Senga left off. Danny Young, José Butto, and Ryne Stanek combined for four scoreless innings, with Stanek closing out the ninth for his first save as a Met.
Francisco Lindor stayed hot at the plate, going 3-for-4 and reaching a milestone with his 1,500th career hit. He also scored the Mets’ first run on a double by Juan Soto, who extended his hitting streak to six games. Tyrone Taylor added a key insurance run with an RBI single in the eighth, while Pete Alonso continued his strong start with a single and a double.
The Mets will hand the ball to Clay Holmes on Tuesday as they look to win the series against the Marlins and push their win streak to six. The first pitch is slated for 4:10 p.m.
