Firefighters in Auburn sprang into action Monday afternoon to rescue two people trapped during a fierce house fire on North Street that left one dog dead but caused no other injuries.

At 1:32 p.m., the Cayuga County 911 Center received reports of a structure fire at 163 North Street with multiple occupants trapped on the second floor. Auburn Fire Department crews arrived within three minutes to find heavy smoke and flames pouring from the left side of the 2½-story residential building.
Firefighters from Engine Company 4 rescued two people stranded on the front porch roof. With the severity of the blaze and the need to protect other city residents, a second and third alarm were requested to bring in additional resources.

Crews worked for nearly two hours to bring the fire under control. While all occupants were safely removed, one dog died in the fire.
The Auburn Fire Department received assistance from several city agencies, including Auburn NY City Ambulance, Auburn Police Department, NYSEG, City Code Enforcement, and Public Works. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
