Anti-Trump Protest in April 2025

A massive wave of protests is expected to sweep across the United States on April 19, 2025 as the grassroots organization 50501 prepares for another coordinated day of action against President Donald Trump’s administration.

Following the success of the April 5 “Hands Off!” protests, which saw millions take to the streets across the country and abroad, organizers are calling for an even larger turnout in what they hope will become a historic moment of sustained civil resistance.

What Is the April 19 Trump Protest?

The April 19 Trump protest is the latest initiative from 50501, a decentralized protest movement that launched in early 2025. Named for its slogan—“50 protests. 50 states. 1 movement.”—the group is calling for demonstrations in every U.S. state to challenge what it describes as the Trump administration’s “hostile government takeover.”

In recent social media campaigns, 50501 has urged at least 3.5% of the U.S. population—more than 11 million people—to participate, citing that figure as the threshold for successful sustained resistance.

“This movement has entered the next chapter,” the group posted on BlueSky. “The people will mobilize again, and again, until we make a difference.”

Background: Hands Off! Protests Spark a Movement

The April 5 “Hands Off!” protests marked the largest day of public resistance during Trump’s second term. With participation in over 1,200 events nationwide and international rallies in cities like London, Berlin, and Paris, the demonstrations targeted a wide range of Trump-era policies.

Protesters opposed executive orders, sweeping immigration crackdowns, and federal layoffs spearheaded by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Organizers framed the movement as a response to what they call “the most brazen power grab in modern history.”

Frank Hickey, a former police officer who joined the New York protest, told Newsweek:

“This is what we’re standing out here in the cold for. It’s an extension of the lawlessness of the Trump regime.”

The 50501 Movement Explained

Emerging from Reddit forums and spreading rapidly across TikTok, Instagram, and BlueSky, the 50501 Movement quickly galvanized a coalition of over 150 activist organizations, including labor unions and civil rights groups.

The movement brands itself as a decentralized but unified effort to counter what it calls “anti-democratic and illegal actions” by the Trump administration.

The group has previously organized large-scale protests, including “No Kings Day” on February 17 and a nationwide demonstration on March 4. Their strategy of synchronized national protest days is modeled after early anti-Trump movements like the 2017 Women’s March.

What to Expect on April 19 Protests

While specific protest locations and logistics are still being finalized, 50501 has confirmed that actions will take place in all 50 states. Organizers are planning both large urban rallies and smaller community-led demonstrations to maximize national participation.

The upcoming April 19 Trump protest is being closely watched by political analysts and civil liberties advocates alike, as the scale of grassroots resistance continues to grow amid a turbulent political climate.
