Yankees rally in ninth, fall to Pirates in 11

The New York Yankees came up short in their bid for a series sweep, falling 5-4 to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 11 innings on Sunday afternoon at PNC Park.

New York (6-3) grabbed an early lead, but starter Will Warren ran into trouble in the third after retiring the first eight batters he faced. A two-out walk to Isiah Kiner-Falefa opened the door for Pittsburgh (3-7), capped by Bryan Reynolds’ two-run double. Warren was tagged for four runs on six hits over four innings, striking out five, and failing to provide the length the rotation needs.

Former Yankee Andrew Heaney was sharp for the Pirates, allowing just one run on five hits across seven innings. He struck out 10 and walked one, silencing his former team and helping Pittsburgh snap a losing skid.

Jazz Chisholm delivered the Yankees’ lone run through eight innings with an RBI double in the first. The offense finally showed life in the ninth, rallying for three runs all with two outs to tie the game. First, Oswald Peraza cut the Pirates lead to two with an RBI double and then the red-hot Trent Grisham followed with a game-tying, two-run single. However, Tommy Pham spoiled the comeback with a walk-off RBI single off Devin Williams in the 11th.

Aaron Judge and Jasson Dominguez were held hitless, each going 0-for-4 with a walk.
