Tage Thompson recorded a hat trick to power the Buffalo Sabres past the Boston Bruins, 6-3, on Sunday night at KeyBank Center. The win marked Buffalo’s fourth straight victory as they improved to 34-36-6 on the season.
Rasmus Dahlin and Alex Tuch each added a goal and an assist, while Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 18 saves for the Sabres. Thompson’s second-period goal started the comeback after Buffalo fell behind 2-0 early, with goals from Elias Lindholm and Morgan Geekie giving the Bruins the early advantage.
Tuch tied the game midway through the second period, but Boston briefly regained the lead with a Casey Mittelstadt power-play goal. Dahlin evened things again late in the period with a slick toe-drag and finish, setting up a strong third for Buffalo.
Jason Zucker gave the Sabres their first lead just under two minutes into the final frame. Thompson extended it with a highlight-reel breakaway goal before sealing the win with an empty-netter to complete the hat trick.
David Pastrnak assisted on all three Bruins goals and extended his point streak to six games.
The Sabres look to make it five straight wins for the first time this season when they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
