Senior goalie Maura Smeader posted a season-best 12 saves as the 10th-ranked William Smith Herons rolled past St. Lawrence, 13-4, in Liberty League action at Boswell Field on Friday evening.
Katherine Murray led the Herons with a career-high seven points, scoring five goals and adding two assists. Sophomore Mia Falco notched a hat trick, while junior Natalie Daniels contributed a goal, two assists, and a game-high six draw controls. Defensively, senior Nikki Pio caused four turnovers, and Falco picked up four ground balls. Smeader also had three ground balls in addition to her strong showing in the net.
William Smith took early control with a 3-0 first quarter, highlighted by goals from Murray, Falco, and Taryn Luzi. The Herons outscored the Saints 5-2 in the third and 4-1 in the final frame to pull away.
St. Lawrence was led by Jessica LaPlaca, who scored twice. Goalie Zoe Froimovitz made 10 saves and collected five ground balls.
With the win, William Smith improves to 7-3 overall and 4-0 in league play. St. Lawrence drops to 4-5 and 2-2 in the Liberty League.
The Herons return to action Saturday afternoon against Clarkson at 3:30 p.m.
