Cornell seniors CJ Kirst and Michael Long reached significant career milestones as the top-ranked Big Red cruised to an 18-11 victory over UAlbany on Tuesday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field. With the win, Cornell improved to 8-1, while UAlbany fell to 3-8.
Kirst led the charge with six goals, pushing his career total to 210 and securing a spot in the top five in Division I history. Long contributed five assists and six points, surpassing 100 career assists and 200 career points. He became just the fourth player in school history to record both 100 goals and 100 assists, joining an elite group of Cornell lacrosse legends.
Junior Jack Cascadden played a key role in possession, winning 19-of-26 faceoffs while scooping 13 ground balls and adding a goal. The Big Red dominated faceoffs, winning 22-of-32 on the day. Ryan Goldstein posted two goals and two assists, while Willem Firth and Ryan Waldman each added two goals and one assist.
Cornell jumped out to a commanding 7-1 lead after the first quarter and maintained control throughout. UAlbany closed the gap to 13-8 in the third, but a Cornell surge put the game out of reach.
Next, the Big Red begin a three-game road trip at Brown on Saturday at noon.
