Yankees hit four more home runs, complete sweep of Brewers

The New York Yankees’ power surge continued Sunday afternoon in the Bronx as they crushed four more home runs in a 12-3 rout over the Milwaukee Brewers, completing a dominant opening weekend sweep.

Aaron Judge wasted no time igniting the offense, launching a two-run homer in the first inning, his fourth in the past two games, setting a franchise record for most home runs in the team’s first three games. Ben Rice followed with his first of the season in the second inning, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. made Milwaukee pay for intentionally walking Judge by blasting a two-run shot in the third. Chisholm later added a three-run homer in the seventh, capping off the Yankees’ offensive explosion.

With 15 homers in their first three games, the Yankees tied the 2006 Tigers for the MLB record. They also became just the ninth team in league history to hit at least 13 homers in a two-game span.

Marcus Stroman lasted 4.2 innings in his season debut, allowing three earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts. After he exited, the Yankees’ bullpen shut down Milwaukee, with Tim Hill, Mark Leiter Jr., Fernando Cruz, and Ryan Yarbrough combining for 4.1 scoreless innings.
