Seneca County officials are considering a countywide assessor position to streamline property evaluations and reduce costs for smaller towns. The idea, raised during a committee meeting, remains in early discussion stages with no formal action yet.
Prompted by input from newly hired consultant Ian Coyle, supervisors noted the growing difficulty in finding trained local assessors and the expense of town-level assessments. A unified approach could ensure consistent property valuations and more efficient revaluations.
Leaders emphasized the need for a gradual transition, including succession planning and possible specialized roles for complex properties like lakefront homes.
