An Auburn man accused of striking and killing a pedestrian earlier this year is now facing an upgraded charge of aggravated vehicular homicide, according to authorities.
Christopher G. Dewitt, 31, was initially charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while impaired by drugs after a January crash on North Street. A recent toxicology report led prosecutors to add the more serious Class B felony charge.
The victim was hit in a crosswalk and later died at the hospital. Dewitt’s attorney is reviewing bodycam footage before deciding whether to accept a potential 7-to-21-year prison plea deal.
