Fire destroys outbuilding in Fleming, no injuries reported

Firefighters responded to a structure fire during the overnight hours on White Road in Fleming after a newspaper delivery driver spotted flames. The fire, which started outside, spread to an outbuilding behind the residence but did not reach the main home.

Fleming Fire Department Company No. 1 was dispatched at approximately 2:10 a.m. Crews from Owasco, Aurelius, Sennett, Poplar Ridge, Scipio, and Union Springs provided mutual aid. Owasco C5 arrived first and determined the fire involved a 10-by-20-foot outbuilding, not the residence itself. Due to the lack of hydrants in the area, a tanker box activation was requested.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and ensured the flames did not spread. All units cleared the scene by 3:15 a.m. Auburn City Ambulance, the Cayuga County Emergency Management Office, and the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office also responded. Incident command was handled by Fleming C2, while Owasco C5 oversaw operations.
