The Honeoye Bulldogs’ remarkable run came to a close in their first-ever state title appearance, as they fell 63-47 to Section II’s Berne-Knox-Westerlo in the Class C Championship on Saturday night at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton.
Honeoye (25-2) got off to a slow start, trailing by 10 within the first five minutes and by six at the end of the first quarter. However, they fought back in the second, outscoring Berne-Knox-Westerlo (26-0) 13-7 to trim the deficit to three at halftime. The momentum shifted in the third, as Honeoye struggled to find their rhythm offensively, getting outscored 21-10. Berne-Knox-Westerlo carried a 14-point lead into the fourth and continued to pull away, securing the program’s first state championship.
Sophomore Landon Washburn led Honeoye with 19 points, while fellow sophomores Braiden Schneider and Dylan Washburn added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Despite the defeat, Honeoye closed out a historic season, capturing their first sectional title in 28 years and winning 25 of their 27 games.
