Concerns over the future of upstate New York’s tech sector have risen after former President Donald Trump called for repealing the CHIPS and Science Act. The act funds domestic semiconductor production, including Micron’s planned facility in Onondaga County.
Democratic Representatives John Mannion and Paul Tonko reassured stakeholders that semiconductor projects are progressing as expected. They emphasized that Micron’s development will boost jobs and national security. Although Trump opposed the CHIPS Act, he has also promoted Nvidia’s major U.S. investment in chip manufacturing.
Despite repeated delays, Micron’s groundbreaking is now scheduled for November. Lawmakers vowed to protect the CHIPS Act and stressed that pre-inauguration contracts for New York’s projects remain intact.
