The Trump administration extended its deadline for New York to halt congestion pricing by 30 days, while criticizing Gov. Kathy Hochul for refusing to comply. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned that continued defiance could impact federal funding.
The MTA, which implemented tolling in January, has vowed to keep the system running. Hochul reaffirmed that “the cameras are staying on,” despite federal opposition. The MTA has also sued the U.S. Department of Transportation, arguing that its decision to revoke approval for congestion pricing was unlawful.
MTA officials maintain that congestion pricing is benefiting New York by reducing traffic and improving commutes. With both sides holding firm, the battle over the tolling program remains unresolved.
