Tesla Recalls 46,000 Cybertrucks Over Safety Hazard

Tesla has issued a recall for over 46,000 Cybertrucks after identifying a serious safety issue with an exterior panel that can detach while driving.
The recall affects all 2024 and 2025 Cybertruck models manufactured between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2025. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall notice, about 1% of the 46,096 affected vehicles may experience the defect.
Why Is Tesla Recalling the Cybertruck?
The problem centers around the cant rail, a cosmetic steel panel attached to the Cybertruck’s exterior using structural adhesive and fasteners.
If the cant rail panel separates while the vehicle is moving, it could create a dangerous road hazard for other motorists, increasing the risk of collisions and injuries.
According to Tesla, affected vehicles may exhibit audible noises inside the cabin before the panel detaches. Some owners have also reported seeing the panel loosening or separating from the vehicle.
🚗 Tesla has stated there have been no reported crashes, injuries, or fatalities related to this defect.
Cybertruck Owners Report Issues Online
Videos showing Cybertruck exterior panels peeling away have gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), the Musk-owned social media platform. Additionally, Cybertruck Owners Club forums have seen a surge in complaints about the issue.
This isn’t the first Cybertruck recall. In June 2024, Tesla recalled the vehicle due to trim pieces around the truck bed becoming loose and falling off.
Tesla’s Response & Next Steps
Tesla has announced that it will replace the cant rail assembly free of charge for affected Cybertruck owners.
🔧 What should owners do?
- Owners can contact Tesla customer service or visit the NHTSA recall website for more details.
- Tesla service centers will inspect and repair the defect at no cost.
Tesla Faces More Challenges Beyond Recalls
This recall comes at a challenging time for Tesla. The company’s stock value has dropped significantly in recent weeks, and its vehicles have increasingly become targets of vandalism—seemingly in response to Elon Musk’s role in President Donald Trump’s administration.
Some analysts and investors worry that Musk’s government position in the Department of Government Efficiency is distracting him from Tesla’s core business.
Elon Musk Speaks Out
Tesla CEO Elon Musk addressed the backlash on Fox News’ Hannity, stating:
“Tesla is a peaceful company. We’ve never done anything harmful. I’ve always done productive things. So there’s some kind of mental illness thing going on because this doesn’t make any sense.”
Final Thoughts
While Tesla’s recall fixes a safety concern, it raises further questions about the Cybertruck’s durability and design. With mounting scrutiny, stock declines, and political controversy, Tesla faces a critical moment in maintaining consumer confidence.
For Cybertruck owners, immediate action is recommended to ensure their vehicle is inspected and repaired as necessary.
