Central NY towns awarded state funds for downtown revamp

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

Several Central New York villages are set to receive state funding for downtown revitalization, but changes may take at least a year to begin. Previous grant recipients, including Aurora, Cayuga, and Union Springs, faced lengthy planning phases before seeing results.

Union Springs, Aurora, and Cayuga won a $10 million grant in 2024 and have since proposed 20 projects totaling $15 million. Plans include waterfront improvements, a new park, and redevelopment of local buildings. However, final state approval remains pending.

Local leaders await the release of a “Strategic Investment Plan,” which will determine funding allocations. While officials are patient for now, they hope to receive updates by late April.
