First measles case outside NYC confirmed in New York

Health officials have confirmed the first measles case outside New York City this year—a 5-year-old child in Suffolk County. This marks the state’s third case in 2025 amid a growing national outbreak.

The CDC reports over 200 measles cases across a dozen states, with Texas seeing a significant surge, including infections in newborns and pregnant women. Experts warn that these groups face higher risks of complications.

With 81 cases in children under five, health officials urge vaccination to prevent further spread of the highly contagious virus.
