Sophomore Joely Caramelli delivered a standout performance, netting a career-high three goals and securing a personal-best 10 draw controls to propel Syracuse women’s lacrosse to a 17-11 win over Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon.
The Orange (5-4, 2-2) showcased their depth with 10 different players finding the back of the net, including six with multi-goal efforts. Freshman Caroline Trinkaus led the team in points, contributing two goals and two assists.
Syracuse held a narrow 4-3 lead before a lightning delay paused play for over 45 minutes. When action resumed, the Orange took control, closing the half on a 5-1 run to enter the locker room with a 10-4 advantage.
Pittsburgh (5-4, 1-3) fought back in the third, outscoring Syracuse 4-1 to trim the lead to 11-8. Emma Ward opened the fourth-quarter scoring, but the Panthers closed the gap to 12-10 before Syracuse responded with a strong finish, scoring four unanswered goals to secure the victory.
Defensively, the Orange recorded 12 caused turnovers, marking their fourth game with double-digit takeaways. Alexa Vogelman and Superia Clark each forced three turnovers.
Syracuse now prepares for a road matchup against Loyola in Baltimore on March 19, their seventh ranked opponent of the season.
