Hobart lacrosse blown out by Dartmouth

The Hobart lacrosse team fell 17-5 against Dartmouth in a non-conference game played at Scully-Fahey Field this afternoon.

The Statesmen got a pair of goals from senior Alex Rosa. Faceoffs were even at 13 apiece with both Cole Emmanuel (8-of-14) and Mike Valent(5-of-8) producing winning records at the X. Emmanuel also logged a game-high six ground balls. Juniors Brady Comella and Julian Race were credited with two caused turnovers apiece. Sophomore Jackson Faiola returned from injury to start in goal, making 10 saves.

Thomas Power and Colin McGill led the Big Green. Power produced a game-high six points on two goals and four assists, while McGill scored five times. Faceoff specialist Spencer Reagan won 9-of-15 faceoffs. Jack Mulholland and Thomas Goguen each caused three turnovers. Mason Morel made 17 saves in about 53 minutes of work.

YOUNG GUNS

  • Hobart played Dartmouth even in the first half of the first quarter thanks to a pair of goals by Statesmen first-years.
  • Johnny Harding opened the scoring with a great individual effort. Behind the cage, he used a stutter step to shake his defender and fired a shot just under the crossbar.
  • The Big Green answered with back-to-back goals to take the lead, but Daniel Cano scored in a manner reminiscent of Harding’s tally to tie the game.

QUICK STRIKES

  • Dartmouth scored five straight in a span of just over five minutes to finish the first quarter with a 7-2 lead.
  • McGill scored twice and Power had two assists during the run.

SETTLED SECOND

  • The Statesmen and Big Green played the second quarter to a draw.
  • Rosa scored twice for Hobart.
  • Faiola made five of his seven first-half saves in the frame.
  • Dartmouth led 9-4 at the half.

SECOND HALF

  • Dartmouth went on another five-goal run in the third quarter with McGill scoring three times for the home team.
  • The Big Green led 14-4 heading into the final 15 minutes.
  • Valent won the opening faceoff of the second half and fired a shot into the lower right corner for his fourth goal of the season. It was Hobart’s only goal of the second half.

UP NEXT

  • Hobart will play its final non-conference game of the season when the Statesmen face St. John’s in Ridgefield, Conn. The contest between the former ECAC Lacrosse League rivals is scheduled to start at noon on Saturday, March 22.
