A major housing development proposal was presented to the Geneva City Council on March 10, outlining plans for a $35 million mixed-use building at 218 Genesee Street, the current site of the Finger Lakes Times building. In mid-2024, The Times announced they were looking for a new home and that their current building would be hitting the market.

Lakeview Health Services and CSD Housing detailed the project, which would bring 74 residential units, office space, and community amenities to the downtown area. The development aims to address Geneva’s housing challenges by providing affordable and supportive housing options.

The building would include 70 one-bedroom and four two-bedroom apartments. Of those, 37 units would be designated for supportive housing, while the remaining units would be available to individuals earning between 60% and 80% of the area median income. Rents are expected to range from $900 to $1,450. The facility would also feature a community room, outdoor patio, fitness center, and on-site staff available 24/7.

Developers estimate the project will generate approximately $50,000 in annual tax revenue, create 75 construction jobs, and support 10 permanent jobs. Additional benefits include improved streetscapes on Castle Street and increased downtown density, potentially boosting local businesses.

Pending city approvals, construction is expected to begin in summer 2026 and conclude by winter 2028.
