No. 14 seed Syracuse men’s basketball (14-18) defeated No. 11 seed Florida State (17-15), 66-62, on Tuesday night at the Spectrum Center in the opening round of the ACC Tournament.
J.J. Starling led the way with 27 points, while Eddie Lampkin Jr. added 14, and Jyare Davis chipped in 14 as well. Lampkin nearly recorded his 15th double-double of the season, finishing just one rebound short.
Syracuse dominated the paint, outscoring Florida State 44-32 and outrebounding them 42-32, including a 13-8 advantage on the offensive glass. The Orange led for most of the game but faced a late rally from the Seminoles, who cut a 16-point second-half deficit to just one in the final moments.
Syracuse will face No. 6 seed SMU on Wednesday night in the second round at 9:30 p.m. on ESPNU. This will be SMU’s first tournament game after receiving a bye, and they previously defeated Syracuse 77-75 on March 4 in Dallas with a last-second tip-in.
