Ontario County cheerleading coach accused of stealing booster club funds

  • Staff Report

A Phelps woman has been charged with grand larceny after authorities say she made unauthorized purchases and mishandled funds belonging to the Midlakes Cheerleading Booster Club.

Tori A. Salato, 26, was arrested on March 7 following an investigation that revealed she allegedly spent more than $1,500 on the booster club’s account between December 2023 and November 2024.

Officials also found that proceeds from a July 2024 chicken barbecue fundraiser were never deposited into the account. The caterer estimated around 100 dinners were sold, though an exact count was not recorded.

Salato was issued an appearance ticket and will face the charge in Phelps Town Court at a later date. Authorities are urging anyone who paid for a fundraiser dinner by check or electronic means to contact Investigator Doug Smith at [email protected].
