Aspiring tradespeople have a new opportunity to jumpstart their careers through the Tompkins Build – Pathways to Apprenticeship program. Ithaca Area Economic Development (IAED) is now accepting applications for the 11-week paid training program, which begins March 31 at the UA Local 81 Plumbers & Pipefitters Training Center. The deadline to register is Friday, March 21.
The program, offered in partnership with the Tompkins Cortland Building Trades Council, provides hands-on training, classroom instruction, and direct engagement with local unions to prepare participants for careers in the construction industry. Classes run Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. until June 12.
Taught by active union members, the program includes visits to up to 10 different union training centers, giving participants exposure to multiple career paths. The technical curriculum is based on the nationally recognized Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3) and includes certifications such as OSHA-10 and First Aid/CPR.
Beyond technical skills, participants receive support in key areas like math for the trades, union entrance exam preparation, and interview readiness to improve their chances of securing an apprenticeship.
For those looking to build a future in the trades, Tompkins Build offers a direct pathway to high-demand, well-paying careers.
