No. 8 Syracuse women’s lacrosse falls to No. 10 Johns Hopkins in overtime

The No. 8 Syracuse women’s lacrosse team forced overtime with a late goal, but No. 10 Johns Hopkins secured a 14-13 victory on the first possession of the extra session on Monday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome.

Syracuse (4-4) started strong, scoring three unanswered goals and leading 6-2 after the first quarter. Johns Hopkins (5-2) responded in the second, outscoring the Orange 4-2 to narrow the gap to 8-6 at halftime. Syracuse maintained a 10-9 lead entering the final quarter and extended it to 12-11 when Sam DeVito scored with 4:46 remaining. The Blue Jays, however, answered with back-to-back goals, taking a 13-12 advantage with 2:23 left. A late turnover by Johns Hopkins gave Syracuse a final chance, and Emma Muchnick capitalized on a free-position shot, tying the game with 12 seconds remaining.

Johns Hopkins won the opening draw in overtime, and MK Lescault sealed the win with an unassisted goal.

Caroline Trinkaus recorded her third hat trick of the season, leading the Orange with three goals, while Emma Ward tallied four points.
