#11 Syracuse men’s lacrosse takes down #7 Johns Hopkins

In a thrilling showdown at the JMA Wireless Dome on Sunday afternoon, 11th-ranked Syracuse secured a 13-10 victory over 7th-ranked Johns Hopkins (5-2), marking its second consecutive top-10 win against the Blue Jays. With the win, Syracuse improves to 5-2 on the season.

Owen Hiltz led the charge for the Orange with four goals and an assist, while Michael Leo contributed a hat trick.

Syracuse started strong, jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead. However, Johns Hopkins responded with four consecutive goals, taking the lead with 4:46 remaining in the first quarter. Tyler Cordes found the net with 3:15 left in the period, tying the game at 4-4.

At halftime, the Blue Jays held a narrow 6-5 advantage, but Syracuse took control in the second half, doubling up on Johns Hopkins offensively and outscoring them 8-4. The Orange won with three unanswered goals, one from Luke Rhoa, Owen Hiltz, and Michael Leo.

John Mullen dominated at the faceoff ‘X,’ winning 13 of 23 battles, while goalie Jimmy McCool made 12 saves to help Syracuse improve to 5-2.

The Orange will have just over a week to prepare for back-to-back matchups against in-state opponents, taking on Manhattan on March 18 at 7 p.m. and Colgate on March 22 at noon, before heading on the road for their ACC opener against Virginia on March 29.
