Sabres sign Jordan Greenway to 2-year, $8 million contract extension

Jordan Greenway isn’t going anywhere this trade deadline.

The Buffalo Sabres announced Wednesday that they have re-signed the veteran to a two-year, $8 million contract extension.

Greenway, 28, was in the final year of his deal but is now under contract with Buffalo through the 2026-27 season.

He has been a key defensive forward and penalty killer for the Sabres. Injuries have plagued his career, with missed time in each of the last three seasons, including surgery earlier this year. However, he made an immediate impact upon returning after the 4 Nations break.

Greenway ranks second among NHL forwards with 2:54 of shorthanded ice time per game over the last two seasons. And this season he’s blocked 3.4 shots per 60 minutes at all strengths, which is a career high. Greenway has also averaged 8.25 hits per 60 minutes since joining the Sabres, which ranks fourth among Buffalo skaters with 50 or more games played during that span.
