TUESDAY HS BASKETBALL SECTIONAL REPORT: Waterloo, ER boys, Newark girls punch tickets to finals; Lyons boys fall in OT

A handful of Section V boys’ and girls’ sectional semifinal games were contested on Tuesday night, and a few more Wayne-Finger Lakes teams advanced to the finals this weekend.

The Waterloo boys outlasted Finger Lakes East rival Mynderse to earn a trip to the Blue Cross Arena on Saturday, where they will face World of Inquiry. East Rochester’s boys secured their place in the finals with Justice Allen’s buzzer-beating layup to defeat Canisteo-Greenwood. The Lyons boys rallied from a 15-point third-quarter deficit to force overtime but ultimately fell to Avon.

On the girls’ side, Newark avenged its regular-season loss to Eastridge with an upset victory, advancing to the Class A championship against Pittsford Sutherland on Saturday.
