The Hochul administration has yet to update New York’s statewide building code to reflect an all-electric construction mandate set to take effect next year, The Ithaca Voice reports.
The update, due in December, has been repeatedly delayed, with the State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council now scheduled to vote on February 28.
Climate advocates worry the delay signals a broader slowdown in state climate action.
Meanwhile, builders and industry groups continue lobbying against the mandate, citing concerns over costs and feasibility. Some developers are pushing for exemptions for ongoing projects.
