What’s next for CHIPS Act after reports Trump admin may renegotiate terms?

  • Staff Report

The Trump administration is reportedly seeking to renegotiate conditions of the CHIPS & Science Act, potentially delaying funding for U.S. semiconductor projects, including Micron’s planned chip fab in Clay, New York.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand called the move “absurd,” emphasizing the law’s importance for national security and urging legal action to prevent changes. Rep. John Mannion, who co-authored New York’s Green CHIPS law, expressed concerns but said he would investigate further.

The CHIPS Act, passed in 2022, was designed to boost domestic chip manufacturing. Any renegotiation could impact contracts already awarded under the program, raising uncertainty for companies relying on federal support.
