F.F. Thompson Hospital will introduce a new check-in process for visitors starting March 1, requiring all hospital inpatient and Emergency Department visitors to obtain a one-day pass upon arrival.
The process, modeled after a system implemented at the hospital’s M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center last October, will require visitors to stop at the Information Desk, present a driver’s license, and receive a visitor pass sticker for the day. Visitors must return the pass when leaving the hospital.
Brandy Collett, manager of volunteers and the Information Desk, stated that the check-in system has been well received at the Continuing Care Center, where staff have streamlined the process for efficiency. A similar check-in policy has already been in place for visitors to Thompson’s Birthing Center.
“Requiring visitors to check in and be issued a visitor’s pass provides an added layer of safety for our patients and staff and is an extra security measure for our facilities,” Collett said.
While the new check-in procedure will apply to all visitors, existing hospital visitation guidelines will remain unchanged. Emergency Department patients are still limited to one visitor at a time, though patients who have been admitted and are waiting for a hospital bed may have up to two visitors. Children under 12 are not permitted as visitors unless they are a sibling to a newborn or visiting a patient receiving end-of-life care.
