Ontario County DA race: MacBride challenges incumbent Ritts

Republican prosecutor Jason MacBride has announced his candidacy for Ontario County District Attorney, challenging incumbent James Ritts in the June 24 primary. MacBride, a former First Assistant DA, promises to restore a “collaborative and respectful partnership” with law enforcement and prioritize victims’ rights.

Ritts, seeking a third term, was reportedly surprised at MacBride’s challenge but defended his office’s record of integrity and victim advocacy. MacBride, now a juvenile prosecutor, vows to crack down on violent criminals, drug dealers, and drunk drivers if elected.

The Republican Party will decide who represents them in the general election. Ritts, with 26 years of experience, stands by his leadership, while MacBride argues for a fresh approach to prosecuting crime in Ontario County.
