Ontario County DA says he shares public’s frustration over repeated release of sex offender

Ontario County District Attorney Jim Ritts is speaking out after a serial sex offender was arrested several times in a span of a few weeks.

His comments come after public frustration over the repeated release of Paul Goodrell, a Canandaigua resident, who has been arrested at least three times since late-November for exposing himself to children at area grocery stores and other public places.

“As District Attorney of Ontario County, I share the public’s outrage that Goodrell had remained at liberty despite efforts by my office and the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision to have him held in custody. I am relieved to report that following a December 22 arrest Goodrell was remanded on bail and continues to be held in the Ontario County Jail,” said District Attorney James Ritts.

The Ontario County District Attorney’s Office is actively working with State and local law enforcement officials to uncover if there are any addition victims of Goodrell.

They urge anyone who observed Goodrell expose himself or act in any manner threatening the well- being of any child in our community to call 911 or their local police and report the matter immediately.

“Our continuing investigation has revealed that during the month of December Goodrell was in the vicinity of Eastview Mall in Victor as well as other shopping areas throughout Ontario County at various times of day,” Ritts added in the release. “The assistance of anyone who witnessed Goodrell’s behavior is needed to ensure Justice for the victims of Goodrell’s unconscionable behavior.”
