Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Tommy Doyle announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday due to a leg injury that caused nerve damage.

The injury occurred on August 19, 2023, during a preseason game against Pittsburgh, and it left Doyle unable to play at a high level. “With the healing process, it looks like it’s permanent,” Doyle said. “When you know, you know.”

Doyle also suffered a torn ACL in his right leg during Week 3 of the 2022 season. He worked hard to recover but was hit with a more severe injury shortly after. Reflecting on his journey, Doyle acknowledged the challenges but noted that he learned valuable lessons through the adversity.

Selected by the Bills in the fifth round of the 2021 draft, Doyle played 11 games during his rookie season, including catching a memorable 1-yard touchdown pass from Josh Allen in a wild-card win against the New England Patriots.

Doyle expressed gratitude for his time in Buffalo, highlighting the strong relationships he built with teammates, coaches, and fans. He described Buffalo as a special city with a passionate fan base, cherishing the close-knit locker room atmosphere.
