Steuben County has switched from CODE Red to NYAlert for emergency notifications, aiming to provide faster and more reliable alerts. The new system, launched on Jan. 20, allows residents to receive critical updates via phone, text, or email.
Officials say NYAlert enhances communication for weather emergencies, local incidents, and public safety updates. County spokesperson Eddie VanStine urges residents to sign up to ensure they stay informed during emergencies.
Residents can register for free at https://alert.ny.gov by creating an account and selecting their preferred notification method. Officials stress the importance of completing registration to continue receiving alerts.
