U.S. pauses Foreign Corrupt Practices Act enforcement

The President issued an executive order on Monday pausing new enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act for 180 days. This move aims to prioritize American economic competitiveness and national security, citing that overreach in FCPA enforcement has hindered U.S. businesses abroad and foreign policy goals.

During the pause, the Attorney General will review all ongoing and potential FCPA investigations, updating guidelines to prevent enforcement that conflicts with presidential foreign policy authority. New investigations will require explicit approval.

The order seeks to balance law enforcement with supporting U.S. companies in strategic global markets, potentially boosting their access to critical infrastructure and resources.
