On Monday President Donald Trump signed an executive order pausing Foreign Corrupt Practices Act enforcement. The order directs the Attorney General to develop updated guidelines that prioritize American economic competitiveness and strategic interests.
The administration argues that overenforcement of the FCPA has disadvantaged U.S. companies by restricting practices common among global competitors, weakening their position in critical sectors like infrastructure and minerals. Past and pending FCPA cases will undergo review, with future actions requiring high-level approval.
This measure aligns with Trump’s broader agenda to reduce regulations, secure favorable trade deals, and strengthen U.S. businesses to compete globally.
